Content
This course is meant to introduce students to linguistic annotation and XQuery. No previous linguistic and/or programming knowledge is required. The following main topics will be addressed:
1) Introduction to linguistic annotation
2) Layers of linguistic annotation: morphology, syntax, and semantics
3) XQuery: how to navigate an XML document
4) XQuery: FLWOR expression
5) XQuery: functions
Goals
The aim of the course is twofold:
1) provide the student with the basics of Linguistics that are necessary to perform and properly understand linguistic annotation.
2) learn the basics of XQuery to manipulate XML documents, using BaseX
